Job Description: Maintenance Team Member

Job Summary

Managing and assisting with the planting of new garden installations and maintaining existing gardens. 

In addition to planting new garden installations, we offer bi-weekly, monthly, and seasonal garden services to existing clients. This includes (but isn’t limited to) tending, harvesting, removal of spent plants, adding soil amendments, and planting for the next season. We have processes and procedures to utilize for installs and maintenance.  As long as you have basic gardening skills and some experience gardening, we will teach you our system.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Flexible, in regards to weather delays, having to stop and grab some plants that we might be out of or something that a client requested, job delays might result in making adjustments to your schedule for planting. 

  • A team player with a strong work ethic who wants the best for our clients. 

  • Able to carry compost bags (50+lbs) and it along with plants, fertilizer and tools in their vehicle to job sites.

  • A strong communicator. This job requires consistent and professional client communication as well as clear communication with the rest of the GFG team. 

Skills:

  • Managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks each day

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to understand the task and time necessary to ensure deadlines are met

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong independent work ethic, integrity, and teamwork.

  • Must possess basic knowledge of kitchen gardening or an eagerness to learn.

  • Have a valid driver's license  and be licensed to work in the US

Responsibilities  

  • Garden Maintenance (replacing soil, harvesting, removal of spent plants, adding soil amendments/organic fertilizer, planting starts and seeds, pruning, mitigating pests and addressing plant diseases, preparing gardens for seasonal transitions)

  • Client Communication (scheduling appointments, giving clear instructions and updates after each visit, talking with clients in person about their garden/answering questions)

  • Shopping and Preparation (picking up materials from local nurseries) 

Hours + Pay

This is a 10-15 hour/week Monday-Friday position. You may not work every day. Our greatest need is March 1-14, May 14-30, August 15-September 10, Late October/Early November Hours depend on seasonal demand and client scheduling. 

We pay $17 an hour to start. You’re paid as a contractor. As your knowledge grows, we can discuss raising your hourly rate.  We are willing to hire applicants with less experience gardening and train you.  Compensation is based on experience.

As your knowledge grows, we can train you to become a garden coach (these hours would be in addition to your maintenance work). Garden coaches work directly with our clients who want to learn how to tend their garden each month.
