About

Gold Feather Gardens

We are leading the kitchen garden movement in Boise. We design turnkey kitchen gardens that fit your lifestyle. That way, you can spend time enjoying your harvest in a beautiful, low maintenance space. Our kitchen gardens are composed of locally made raised beds, organic soil and high quality plants and seeds from nearby farms. All of our growing principles are all natural, and sourcing locally is our highest priority.

As a company, our mission is to cultivate, empower and galvanize kitchen gardeners. With authenticity, passion and empathy, we aim to create a healthier and more sustainable world, starting in Boise, Idaho.

Our Why

We believe that a local food system can fully sustain its community, but to do that, the community must invest in the local food system. If we close the loop, ensuring the money we spend on food remains in our local economy, our society and culture will be healthier in all ways.

This is a big job, but we know that if every resident of Boise started a garden, no matter the size, using local resources like we do, they would fall in love with local food, and we could make the world a happier, healthier place.

Meet our Team

Jamie Brennan, Founder + CEO

Jamie founded Gold Feather Gardens when a global pandemic brought her career in hospitality to a halt. A magazine writer and local food advocate, she turned to her garden for inspiration and healing, and she found a new path forward. That’s her goal for every client she meets: to find joy in the garden.

When Jamie isn’t gardening, she can be found writing by the river, reading a good book, cooking with her CSA and hiking in the Boise foothills with her golden retriever, Hooch, and her husband, Owen.

Abby Youngwerth, Director of Garden Services

Abby was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. By the age of three, she was already fully immersed in outdoor activities that our town is known for: bike riding, motorcycles, skiing, and berry picking.

Amid the pandemic, Abby sought an avenue to stay connected with the outdoors and discovered a passion for gardening. It quickly became an integral part of her lifestyle.

Inspired by GFG’s mission, Abby believes in the power of investing in community to make a meaningful impact. She’s eager to grow productive gardens throughout Boise’s landscapes to provide nourishing local ingredients directly to homeowners in her hometown. Abby’s goal with GFG is to share the joy that gardening has brought to her life with her community.

Outside of the garden you may find Abby frolicking outdoors with pup Pacman, tending chickens, Ewan, Stanley, and Wanda, or playing the guitar with neighbors.

Kaylee Gross, Kitchen Garden Consultant

Kaylee was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, where she developed a love for the  outdoors. She loves to ski, mountain bike, climb, raft, camp, cook and garden.

Kaylee started experimenting in her kitchen garden in 2021, where she quickly fell in love with the creativity and gratification that comes along with learning how to grow your own food. Once she stumbled upon Gold Feather Gardens, she knew it would be a perfect fit.

She currently hopes to blend her background in ecology, nutrition and gardening to help people stay connected to their food systems and optimize their health.

Gina Lockwood, Kitchen Garden Consultant

Gina’s background in gardening is rooted with her Italian family that centered around growing food, and indulging in its harvest for many gatherings that were shared by family, friends, and neighbors.  She remembers the aroma of sliced fresh tomatoes and basil drizzled over them with olive oil, fried squash blossoms, and simple greens for salads and all the fixings to go with them every day.  Celebrations revolved around food for all occasions.  Little did she know that one day she would share a big dream-to design and create a shared alley space together as a community.

Gina retired in 2021 during the pandemic and reached out to Gold Feather Gardens as she was trying to figure out a way to use the space in her alley that was underutilized, but where most of the day’s sun was.  Three raised beds were installed and the rest of her garden experience has evolved.  She has since joined the Gold Feather Garden team to help out and started the North End Alley Project together with her community of neighbors to celebrate gardening and food for all occasions.

When Gina is not pursuing her passion for gardening and cooking, she spends her time exploring new adventures in Idaho, hiking with friends, painting, and always trying to be a better fisherwoman and golfer.

Noelle Marion, Kitchen Garden Consultant

Noelle is an an experienced gardener who finds great joy in spending time outdoors, especially with her family. As a mother of three boys, she often shares her love for gardening with them. With a teaching degree, Noelle enjoys combining her passion for education and gardening by teaching students how to start seeds and fostering an appreciation for the healthy habits gardens can inspire.

As a team member at Gold Feather Gardens, Noelle takes pride in helping people discover the beauty in life's simple pleasures, like gardening

Teresa Nygard, Consultant at Large

Teresa joined the Gold Feather team at the start of 2022. After years of admiring the GFG garden at Petite 4, she took a chance on reaching out to Jamie and asking for her dream job...and she said yes! Teresa grew up in a family of gardeners in upstate New York. A member of a very Italian family, some of her earliest memories are of picking tomatoes with her Dad and Nonna to make 150+ quarts of sauce every summer.

Food has always been the center of her home, and learning to grow that food with love on the land we're given is central to Teresa's gardening philosophy.

Outside of gardening, Teresa enjoys making homemade pasta, reading on her front porch, playing tennis, and exploring the Idaho wilderness with her husband and her pup, Fig.

Hooch the Golden, Official GFG Mascot

Gold Feather Gardens draws inspiration from a certain golden retriever named Hooch. Jamie and Hooch have been gardening together on balconies in Atlanta, Georgia, harvesting vegetables on farms in Idaho and creating a community garden on a vacant lot near their home in Boise.

Hooch’s golden, feathery tail wags when Jamie pulls her boots on, and into the garden they go, adventuring, experimenting and enjoying what greets them in each moment. We strive to bring joy and fulfillment to all of Gold Feather Gardens clients in that way.
