Maija grew up in Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley, earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon before joining the Peace Corps, where she grew her first garden (and learned about the destructive nature of slugs!). Since, she has been deepening her knowledge and sharpening her skills in establishing, cultivating, restoring, and maintaining landscapes, kitchen gardens and beyond!
Maija moved to Boise in 2015, and earned her Master’s in Health Science from Boise State University while strengthening community connections to foster sustainability. This has led her to become involved with the Idaho Botanical Garden, Snake River Seed Cooperative, and working at the region's only native plant nursery - Draggin’ Wing High Desert nursery.
Aside from an enthusiasm for growing her own veggies and herbs each season, Maija is passionate about plants endemic to the Sagebrush Steppe - a hugely important and rare ecosystem that she believes deserves to be preserved. Plants are her total passion and she is thrilled to join the Gold Feather Garden’s team to further the mission of growing kitchen gardens in Boise!
