Our Gardens

What’s a Kitchen Garden?

Our kitchen gardens are raised bed vegetable gardens designed around each gardener’s aesthetic, palate and lifestyle. Each installation begins with a conversation about your gardening experience, goals and resources. From there, we render a design and bring it to life using the best quality local materials and vendors. Once we’ve planted your garden according to what you like to eat and want to grow, we’ll guide you through the growing season to make the most of your investment. Below you can browse some of the gardens we’ve built to date.

Border Gardens in Small Spaces

We believe that limited space shouldn’t limit the gardener, so we’ve designed dozens of gardens that fit in less than 100 square feet. Against fences, in alleys and even in front yards, we love growing loads of food in border gardens.

Elizabeth G., North End

“I was hoping for a garden that would look pretty and inspirational. What I didn't realize — until my husband pointed it out — is that I spend hours out there tinkering. I get lost in the garden and it has become my new hobby; the bonus being it’s also green therapy! The garden is a prolific show stopper to anyone who comes into the yard. I think it adds value to the house, as well.”

Twins, Trios and Quads for Medium to Large Areas

Depending on the size of your space, we might recommend two, three or four beds to feed your family (or neighborhood!) These are some configurations of gardens we suggest for spaces 100-400 square feet in size.

Jillian W., Southeast Boise

“I expected to have a beautiful garden and delicious bounty and I couldn't have imagined how much JOY the garden would bring to us as a family. It has been such an incredible experience to tend to the garden together and eat our meals by the garden and enjoy all of the amazing herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers!”

Potager-Style Gardens for Large-to-extra-large Spaces

For areas with more than 400 square feet of space, we design gardens that serve as outdoor rooms. The French call these “potager” gardens. If you love to entertain outside or just want your garden to be the centerpiece of your landscape, a potager creates habitat and food for you, your community and ecosystem.

Ashley W., The Bench

“I was expecting to get the back cleared out and some general guidance to planting. I received so much more. [The GFG Team] first listened to what I had in my head, and where I wanted to go. My overarching goal was that I wanted to harvest all of my favorite veggies I had been buying at the store and live a more sustainable life. I thought I was just going to get advice on what to plant. Instead, GFG created a whole plan, from completely getting rid of the weeds, suggesting box plans and options to my needs and preferences and then came over multiple times to check in and help my plant all of the veggies. All while giving me such great guidance on care and healthy plant harvesting. They took the complexity completely out of the situation, took on all of the overwhelming parts and created such a beautiful plan.

I have so much joy in my garden now!”
